Events ENGLISH
The Royal Quarter is renowned for its many popular events. Owing to a varied programme of events you can get to know the many facets of this area. Regular recurring events are the Holland Historic Festival, Marché Royal. The Overstock Days and the Winter Market. Many other events, on a smaller scale, are also held in between these traditional events.
HOLLAND HISTORIC FESTIVAL
During The Hague Historic Festival in August Dutch history comes to life! This festival takes place on the Binnenhof, along the Hofvijver, on the Plaats and in the Palace Gardens. Important figures from Dutch history can be admired in the parades and you also get the opportunity to have a chat with one of the former Dutch Queens. This is a very enjoyable and educational weekend for people of all ages.
Marché Royal
In the autumn, you don’t need to travel far to get into a Parisian mood! As every year, in October, the Marché Royal takes place, the nicest market of the Royal Quarter. In the quaint streets, accordions play, the aroma of freshly-baked French bread wafts around and French vintage cars can be found around the neighbourhood. Throughout the whole district there are stalls with cute knickknacks and crafts, and of course delicious bites to eat.
Overstock Days
Traditionally the Royal Quarter tradespeople have a good clear-out every November. All the cellars and storage spaces of the shops, hotels and restaurants have got to be emptied. This is your chance to grab a bargain, in the form of fashion wear, shop goods, dinner services and many more unique items.
Winter Market
In December is the nostalgic Winter Market the ideal place to do your Christmas shopping. Whilst you drink a glass of warming glühwein as you admire the many Christmas stalls, craftsmen give demonstrations of techniques from the olden times, and on every corner there is a choir or a musician singing classic Christmas songs. Heart-warming!
